Official launch of the project “Restoration of forest landscapes and good governance in the forest sector”

Togo is stepping up its efforts to restore forest landscapes in accordance with its commitment to restore 1.4 million hectares by 2030 as part of AFR100. The Federal Republic of Germany, through GIZ, is supporting Togo in the process of implementing Forest Landscape Restoration (RPF) measures through the Global Programme “Restoration of Forest Landscapes and Good Governance in the Forest Sector” (Forests4Future).

The launch of this project took place today, March 23, 2022 at the Onomo Hotel in Lomé, by the Minister of the Environment and Forest Resources, represented by the Secretary General, Ltn/Col DIMIZOU Koffi Aoufoh,.

The objective of the project is to “Rehabilitate the ecological and productive functions of ecosystems in order to strengthen the resilience of entire landscapes and improve the well-being of communities”.

Overview of launch participants

The F4F-Togo Project is structured around three fields of action (Output), namely:

  1. the operational capacities of actors to support measures to “restore forests and wooded productive landscapes” (RPF) are improved in the prefecture of Tchamba, (Central Region of Togo);
  2. The implementation of forest landscape restoration approaches is strengthened on the basis of the action plan developed for selected landscapes;
  3. The added value created by the sale of agro-forestry products by rural households has increased as part of forest landscape restoration measures.

The activities of these 3 Outputs fall within Development Goals (SDGs) 2 (Zero Hunger); 15 (Life on Land) and 17 (Partnerships for the achievement of the goals) and will contribute to the achievement of the national objective of Forest Landscape Restoration (FLR).

The current phase covers from September 2020 to the end of October 2025 for an amount of 2 million euros (2,000,000€).

The project is implemented in Togo by GIZ through the German design office Deutsche Forest Service (DFS).

This national launch workshop will be followed by the regional workshop on 25 March 2022 in Tchamba.
