Celebrating World Biodiversity Day in Togo
Minister FOLI BAZI Katari celebrated it on a deferred date this Thursday, July 28, 2022 in Les Lacs.
In an inclusive and participatory approach, the minister was alongside the communities living around the Asévé classified forest in the town of Lacs 3, about twenty kilometers from Lomé.
Mr. Katari took the opportunity to raise awareness and maintain this community on the ecosystemic importance of biological diversity and at the same time, launched an appeal to the entire Togolese population. He emphasized the need for conservation and especially for the restoration of the ecosystem after irrational exploitation. Man has attacked nature and today, his survival is threatened. This is what justifies the choice of Asévé, a forest classified entirely as an urban agglomeration with an area of 55 ha under strong anthropic pressure.
With his words, Mr. FOLI BAZI acted out through reforestation activities this morning. He planted the ground with the Prefect of Lakes, the honorable deputies of the prefecture, the mayor of the municipality Lacs 3, the traditional chiefs as well as the population of Cola-gigantea plants at his side. Forest enrichment and a cola-gigantea green belt will be reforested on 1 ha.
On the occasion, an event celebrated on 22 May each year, Ms. ATUTONOU Amah, Director of Forest Resources, delivered to the audience the message of the United Nations for the 2022 edition of the World Day for Biological Diversity.
The organization of this event was supported by the WACA ResIP project.
