From the green school year

The Togolese government is not losing sight of its objective, which is to plant at least 21 million plants during this year 2022.

To achieve this, the executive intends to involve all sectors of the population throughout the current year. This is why, on September 30, 2022, the Minister of the Environment and Forest Resources, Katari FOLI BAZI, launched the “green school year” at the Dévé public primary school in Tsévié, about 40 kilometers north of Lomé.

It was in front of the teaching staff and students from other private and public establishments that the minister conveyed the message on the importance of reforestation and the reasons for the green school year.

For the minister, this government initiative aims to contribute to the increase in forest cover. The dual five-year and ten-year ambitions of reforestation were also explained to teachers and students.

To go from 24.24% to 25% by 2025 and plant one billion plants by 2030, general mobilization, including that of learners, is needed. These students, after seeing the minister set the tone for planting a plant followed by the local authorities, they stormed the hectares developed to plant trees of several species.

At this launch, a total of 1022 plants composed of 822 Khaya senegalensis and 400 Terminalia superba were planted at EPP Dévé under the supervision of teachers and water and forest agents.

After the launch in Tsévié, all schools are invited to continue reforestation activities, especially when the weather conditions this year are favorable or by monitoring and maintaining the plants already planted, so that Togo can become green in a few years.
