Forest BiodiversityTogo — Protecting a hippopotamus community and valuing their habitat
The richness of biodiversity is one of the jewels of Togo. But the degradation of this biodiversity has accelerated over the last two decades. The GEF and UNDP Small Grants Programme is a financial mechanism supporting communities and civil society organizations to facilitate the implementation of concrete actions to conserve natural resources and protect the environment. In the AFI pond in south-east Togo, the project executed by the NGO CDAC has valued the ecotourism potential of the place where around thirty hippopotamuses live, hitherto threatened by poaching and human activities.
