Instructions for carrying out the National Forest Inventory of Togo
This document relating to inventory instructions contains instructions for carrying out the first national forest inventory (NFI) of Togo executed by the DFS - UNIQUE consortium in partnership, and on behalf of, the Ministry of Environment and Forest Resources (MERF). It is financed by GIZ through its REDD+ Support Program - Readiness and Rehabilitation of Forests in Togo (ProREDD) created in July 2014. This program is part of German-Togolese cooperation
The purpose of this inventory is to provide the Togolese Government with basic quantitative and qualitative data on natural forests, plantations and trees in the forest areas of the State, local authorities and individuals in order to enable them to be managed sustainably. It uses statistical sampling. Moreover, for financial and temporal reasons, this IFN will be limited to the collection of data on parameters that can be measured or assessed objectively, and instantaneously, in order to best translate the current state and evolving trends of forest resources in Togo. This document outlines the working method for collecting these data in the field. It is designed to guide field teams in the coherent and harmonious collection of information essential to the assessment of the current state and evolving trends of national forest resources.
