Fazao-Malfakassa National Park: eco-guards equipped to fight against poaching for better conservation of biodiversity
A total of forty-seven eco-guards, including one woman, attended the training workshop on “anti-poaching and ecological monitoring data” in Sotouboua on Wednesday, September 7.
Initiated by the Ministry of the Environment and Forest Resources, the purely technical training will give these participants the tools they need to properly monitor the Fazao-Malfakassa National Park (PNFM), fight growing poaching due to the COVID-19 pandemic and, therefore, ecological monitoring data. Coming from all the forest brigades on the outskirts of the park, these conse of the day were selected based on their individual efforts to collect data in the field. At the beginning of the work, the first official in charge of the Sotou prefecture, PALI Tchabi Passabi, welcomed the government's efforts in the fight for the preservation of this national heritage, which remains the only site in Togo to permanently house elephant herds, in the presence of the regional director of the environment, Colonel AFFOH Até Badjaniou and Lieutenant-Colonel ABOUDOU, Mensa, the national focal point of the program to monitor the illegal killing of elephants.
