Monitoring of water resources in Togo

In order to ensure the monitoring of water resources in Togo for the implementation of the project “Support for the strengthening of capacities for surveillance, control and enforcement of rules in the Mono-Volta landscape” financed by the IUCN PAPBIO-C1 Mangroves project, the NGO AGBO-ZEGUE organized surveillance patrols along the water body and associated forests, the lagoon system. These invited actors are among others the Representation of the municipality of Lacs 1; the Representation of the municipality of Lacs 3; Representation of the inter-prefectural committee for the management of the lagoon system; the Agbodrafo gendarmerie; the Aného gendarmerie; the Aného gendarmerie; the ANGE; the NGO AVOTODE.
The IUCN PAPBIO-C1 Mangroves project aims at the long-term restoration and preservation of fragile mangrove ecosystems along the Mono Volta landscape where degradation is of major importance affecting coastal population groups. Indeed, in the Mono-Volta landscape, part of Togo, Ecosystems are very poorly managed and suffer degradation that does not guarantee the sustainability of their productivity. The current relics of these ecosystems located in these parts of south-eastern Togo are very fragmented.
The objective of the patrol is to survey mangrove areas and identify degraded and georeferenced areas with key actors in charge of resource protection. For three (03) days, these actors will be involved in monitoring the lagoon system for subsequent decision-making on the sustainable management of resources and the application of rules and conventions linking communities to the management of these resources.
