Official celebration of World Wetlands Day in Togo

The delayed celebration of World Wetlands Day organized by the Ministry of Environment and Forest Resources took place in AFITO, a town located in the Maritime region about 122 km north-east of Lomé. This year's theme is “wetlands and water.”

Starting at 9 am, the events of the 2021 edition were marked by sketches and the declamation of poems about the need to protect and maintain fragile ecosystems in general and wetlands in particular. All the interventions, including that of the MERF representative Dr. KODJO Koudadjé, focused on the interest and the need to protect wetlands.
The hippopotamus ponds that were the subject of a guided tour have been included since 1995 on the list of Ramsar sites under number 736.
The prefect of Yoto, Col. SODOKPO Afan.

This year the Ramsar Convention is also celebrating its Golden Jubilee.
Remember that wetlands are celebrated every February 2 of each year.
