From 19 to 25 February and from 02 to 03 March 2021, Prefects, Mayors of municipalities, surveyors, guardians of habits and customs, grassroots development organization, civil society organization and building and public works contractors were sensitized on the value of ecosystem services and the impact of inaction on the conservation of urban and peri-urban wetlands.

Awareness-raising sessions in major cities such as Mango, Kara, Sokodé, Atakpamé, Atakpamé, Kpalimé, Tsévié and Lomé allowed the CHM-Togo team coordinated by its Contact Person Lieutenant AGBESSI K. G. Eric, assisted by its manager Mr. MINZAH Tchannilaba, assisted by its manager Mr. MINZAH Tchannilaba, under the funding of the Royal Institute of Natural Sciences of Belgium, to raise awareness among populations in urban areas of Togo and certain key actors on consequences of the uncontrolled occupation of urban and peri-urban wetlands and on the need to conserve and manage sustainably the biodiversity of these ecosystems. Specifically it is about:
inform and raise awareness among target groups on the importance of maintaining the biodiversity of wetlands;
disseminate good practices in the management of various urban and peri-urban wetlands through appropriate awareness-raising materials.
At the end of each awareness-raising session, a monitoring committee on the protection of urban and peri-urban wetlands was set up. Their mission is essentially to raise awareness and contribute to the enrichment and sharing of information on biodiversity in general and that of wetlands in particular.

These sessions, conducted under the direction of the Director of Forest Resources of the Ministry of Environment and Forest Resources, allowed the new CHM-Togo team to revitalize the network of contributors to whom an appeal was launched for more contributions and participation in the sharing of information relating to Biodiversity in Togo.
