R4C-Togo: Call for proposals for community sub-projects in the field of the environment

BACKGROUND

As part of the implementation of the project “Strengthening the resilience to climate change of coastal communities in Togo (R4C-Togo)”, financed by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) via the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), it is planned to carry out activities to restore sacred forests and degraded lands (including the banks of the lagoon), river banks and mangroves. These restoration activities will be carried out by civil society (NGOs, associations...) and community groups in the project intervention area, the maritime region.

It is with this in mind that these TDRs are developed to result from these NGOs, associations and community groups and respond to Activity 2.1.1.2: Restoration of sacred forest and degraded lands (including the shores of the lagoon) and Activity 2.1.1.3: Restoration of mangroves to Result 2.1: Ecosystems of coastal areas, mangroves, and coastal meadows (lakes and lagoons) and sacred forests provide enhanced protection against the negative effects of CC, which decreases coastal erosion and increases resilience and to Product 2.1.1: Community ecosystem management plans developed and implemented (i.e., reforestation of river banks, coastline, coastline, mangrove management, forest area management).

  1. Objective

The objective is to carry out restoration work on river banks, mangroves, degraded lands and sacred forests in the maritime region.

Specifically, it is about:

  • Restoring river banks, degraded lands, and sacred forests;
  • Restoring mangroves.
  • Effectively involve shoreline communities in restoration activities for greater sustainability;
  • Give prominence to women and young people in restaurant-related activities that generate income.

  1. Results
  • river banks, degraded lands and sacred forests are restored;
  • The mangroves are restored;
  • Women and young people are involved in catering activities along with income-generating activities.

  1. Activities eligible for funding from the R4C-Togo project.

The eligible activities of the R4C-Togo project must aim at:

      • The restoration (reforestation, defense) of the banks of rivers and the lagoon, with the effective participation of riparian communities;
      • The reforestation/restoration of mangroves with the effective participation of riparian communities;
      • Restoration of sacred forests and degraded lands with the effective participation of riparian communities.

  1. Activities not eligible for funding from the R4C-Togo project.

The R4C-Togo project can finance all the expenses necessary for the implementation of the sub-projects, except for the purchase of land, buildings and cars and other similar expenses.

    1. projects

For this first phase of implementing community sub-projects, the R4C-Togo project will finance activities considered as priority actions that aim at the restoration and protection of river banks, degraded lands, sacred forests and mangroves. Project

The sub-projects to be financed must be located in the maritime region; area of intervention of the R4C-Togo project. This area supports river ecosystems including the Mono, Haho and Zio rivers, the Lakes, the lagoons of Lomé, Togoville and Aného, the Gbaga Channel and the coalescing cordons of the Lake Togo and Mono river basins. This marine and coastal complex, rich in terrestrial and aquatic flora and fauna, is subject to a strong human footprint, which is reflected in a drastic reduction in the area and quality of riparian forests, thus exposing the banks to various forms of erosion and the waterways to siltation,

For mangroves, the restoration sites are Lake Boko on the side of Agnironkopé, Lake Togo.

The objective of the R4C-Togo project, through the sub-projects to be selected, is to restore and protect the banks of watercourses in the project intervention area. Therefore, the sites eligible for the selection of community sub-projects are the banks of the main watercourses in the maritime region, in particular the banks of the Zio, Haho and Mono rivers and their permanent tributaries, the Klikpa, Lili, Lili, Boko, Boko, Boko, Yoto, Doglobo, and Mono rivers and their permanent tributaries, the rivers Klikpa, Lili, Boli, Boko, Boko, Boko, Yoto, Doglobo, Afan, Lacs Togo, etc.
