THIRD NATIONAL REPORT OF TOGO ON THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE UNITED NATIONS CONVENTION TO COMBAT DESERTIFICATION

PAN-Togo was validated during a national forum in December 2001. It is in synergy with the country's general strategic guidelines, in particular those of the national report on the monitoring of the MDGs validated in October 2003, where it is explicitly mentioned that the NAP is one of the priority areas where the support of partners is sought. The same applies to the medium-term goals identified in the PRSP interim report, approved in July 2004, where broader concerns about the effective management of natural resources are taken into account under the third objective. The PAN is also rooted in sub-sectoral environmental policies, in particular the national environmental policy and the national environmental action plan adopted by the Government on 29 December 1998 and 6 June 2001 respectively. The sub-programmes and objectives of the PAN are also consistent with the strategies developed as part of the implementation of the two other conventions of the Rio Generation (the Framework Convention on Climate Change and the Framework Convention on Biodiversity) and the National Forest Action Plan. The other sectoral policies in force in Togo, which have a direct or indirect link with the PAN, are: the growth strategy for the rural and agricultural sector approved in June 2004; the energy development policy; the industrial development policy; the industrial development policy; the trade and transport policy; the trade and transport policy and the hydraulic policy.
